Wycliffe graces the cover of the October issue of Downbeat magazine with a special look into his music and his love and admiration for ‘Pops’ (Louis Armstrong). Photos of Wycliffe inside the Louis Armstrong House and Museum are extra special.
Well it’s official. Once again Wycliffe has been named “Best in Trombone” by the Downbeat Critics Poll for his contributions to jazz in 2014. In addition, they have also bestowed upon him the “Rising Star” award for best in miscellaneous instrument–Tuba! Wycliffe is best known as a trombonist, but he is also quite accomplished on Tuba as well as the Trumpet and Soprano Trombone, both of which he plays regularly in concert performances.
